Ghaiyyath named World’s Best Racehorse of 2020

Superb four-time G1 winner adds Longines award to his outstanding record, while his Juddmonte International win is named race of the year

Ghaiyyath, who is about to embark on his first season as a Darley stallion at Kildangan Stud in Ireland, was officially named the World’s Best Racehorse of 2020 on Tuesday, 26 January.

In a virtual ceremony hosted by Longines, his position as the best on the planet was confirmed with a final rating of 130, shortly after his outstanding win in the G1 Juddmonte International was named race of the year.

The son of Dubawi enjoyed a banner year in 2020, kicking off his campaign with a devastating win in the G3 Dubai Millennium Stakes at Meydan, winning the race named after his legendary grandsire by an astounding eight and a half lengths.

Ghaiyyath then broke the course record at Newmarket in the G1 Coronation Cup, before seeing off several top performers (including Enable) in the G1 Eclipse. He completed his hat trick in the Juddmonte International, leading from pillar to post and eventually winning by three lengths.

Ghiayyath already had a win at the highest level on his record, following his 14-length demolition of the field in the Grosser Preis von Baden in 2019.

He was also a top-class juvenile, winning the G3 Autumn Stakes in record time.

Ghaiyyath stands at a fee of €30,000, Oct 1, SLF.
