G3 Jubilee Handicap success for son of Teofilo

Yakeen wins his first Stakes race in South Africa

Yakeen, a three-year-old son of Teofilo who was bred in Australia, made the step up into Group races a winning one on Sunday, 10 June when gamely landing the G3 Jubilee Handicap. Now the winner of four of his six career starts, the Mike de Kock-trained colt showed great tenacity in the final furlong to win by a narrow margin from Tilbury Fort.

Bred by Larneuk Stud, his is a son of the Royal Academy mare Reine, a daughter of the New Zealand Champion Candide and a half-sister to G1-winning juvenile Nadeem.

Teofilo has now sired 40 Group winners including 14 that have won at the top level. This year Happy Clapper has won brace of G1s in the Doncaster Handicap and Canterbury Stakes, with his six further Stakes winners headed by Humidor, Irishcorrespondent, Mildenberger, Bloomfield and Key Victory.
