Futurity Stakes win for Henry Longfellow

Dubawi’s juvenile son lands G2 prize in Ireland

Dubawi’s juvenile son Henry Longfellow, who made a winning debut just a month ago at the Curragh, returned to the same track on Saturday, 19 August, where he showed plenty class to run out the decisive winner of the G2 Futurity Stakes and remain unbeaten in two starts.

Jumping well from the gates, Ryan Moore settled the Aidan O’Brien-trained colt to track the leader, where he travelled comfortably throughout the seven-furlong contest. Ridden out in the final two furlongs Henry Longfellow soon went clear to score by an easy two lengths. His next target looks likely to be the G1 Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket in October.  Portland, also by Dubawi, filled third spot.

Bred by Coolmore, Henry Longfellow is the second foal out of multiple G1-winning mare Minding (Galileo), herself an own-sister to three Black Type winners, including G1 heroines Tuesday and Empress Josephine. Their dam was the G1 Coronation Stakes and Matron Stakes winner Lillie Langtry.

Champion sire Dubawi has so far sired 27 individual Black Type winners this year. Four have won at the highest level, including Modern Games (Lockinge Stakes), Al Husn (Nassau Stakes), Lord North (Dubai Turf) and In Italian (Jenny Wiley Stakes and Just a Game Stakes).
