First-season sire competition winner announced

Congratulations to Fiona Denniff

With 2024 now upon us, we are delighted to announce the winner of Darley’s 2023 first-season sire competition.

A huge congratulations to Fiona Denniff, who has won a case of champagne for correctly predicting a total of 84 winners combined for Darley’s three first-season sires: Blue Point, Masar and Too Darn Hot, plus correctly predicting Blue Point to be the first of them to sire a winner.

2023 was a tremendous year for the three young sires, with Blue Point crowned Champion first-season sire with a remarkable 51 winners, including G1 winners Big Evs and Rosallion.

Too Darn Hot also enjoyed considerable success, with 26 individual winners including G1 winner Fallen Angel, and four European Group-winning juveniles. No first-crop sire has ever recorded more.

Masar’s seven individual winners included some exciting types, including unbeaten Golden West, winner of an Epsom Derby ‘win and you’re in’ conditions race on his second start.

2024 promises to be equally exciting for Darley’s new first-season sires with Earthlight, Ghaiyyath and Pinatubo all set to have their first runners on the track. Keep your eyes peeled for details on this year’s competition as the new season draws closer!
