First foal for Masar

'Athletic' colt out of Dubai One arrives at Woodpark Stud in Ireland

The first reported foal by 2018 Derby hero Masar was born at Woodpark Stud in Ireland on Thursday, 21 January.

The chesnut colt is the first foal out of the six-time winner Dubai One (Exceed And Excel), a half-sister to G2 winner Prize Money and from the family of Champion filly and G1 Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Crimplene.

He was described by Patrick Byrne, General Manager of Godolphin Ireland as, “We are delighted to have our first Masar foal on the ground. A first foal out of this mare, the colt has plenty of size and scope, with an athletic profile and attractive features. He is correct with a great outlook – we are looking forward to seeing more of them.”.

Masar became the first horse to carry the Godolphin blue silks to victory in the Derby, and the third from the great Urban Sea family to take the Blue Riband, after Galileo and Sea The Stars. Masar was a more precocious juvenile than either, landing the G3 Solario Stakes before finishing third in the G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere.

He was very well supported during his first season at Dalham Hall Stud in 2020, with 122 in-foal mares. They include G1 winner Lady Marian, already dam of New Approach’s G2-winning son Loxley, fellow G1 winner Punctilious and Teofilo’s Group-winning half sister by Dubawi, Bean Feasa.

Masar’s 2021 fee is £14,000, Oct 1, SLF.
