First foal for Champion two-year-old Earthlight

‘Attractive correct bay filly with loads of substance’ arrives at Plantation Stud

The first reported foal by dual G1 winner and Champion juvenile Earthlight was born at Plantation Stud in Newmarket on Sunday, 16 January.

A bay filly out of the Group-placed multiple winner Achnaha (Haatef), she is from the family of Stakes-winning two-year-old and producer Dusky Queen, plus Sweet Solera Stakes winner Albabilia.

Plantation Stud’s James Berney described her as an, “Attractive, correct bay filly with loads of substance. We are very happy with her.

"We used Earthlight as he was a very high-class racehorse, being Champion two-year-old in France and a son of Shamardal out of a talented racemare.

"He looks to have all the credentials to be a top-class sire! We will be supporting him again this year."

Earthlight, an outstanding son of Shamardal, was undefeated during an exceptional juvenile campaign. Having won on his debut, he posted a wide-margin win at Deauville next time out before winner the G3 Prix de Cabourg by four lengths over the same course and distance.

He added a first G1 victory in the Darley Prix Morny, before taking the G1 Middle Park in record time – a record previously held by Oasis Dream. He was duly crowned France’s Champion two-year-old that year.

Earthlight proved extremely popular during his first season at Kildangan Stud and has recently returned from shuttling duties in Australia. He is available to view to breeders at Kildangan Stud, simply contact the nominations team on +353 (0)45 527600 to arrange an appointment.
