Fifth Group victory for talented Teofilo filly

Eziyra sweeps to victory in G2 Blandford Stakes at the Curragh

Teofilo’s four-year-old daughter Eziyra has been a model of consistency throughout her racing career, never finishing out of the first three. On Sunday, 16 September she added a fifth win at Group level to her record, landing the G2 Blandford Stakes at the Curragh.

Settled in second under Declan McDonogh, Eziyra travelled beautifully throughout the 10-furlong contest and once asked to quicken, the result never looked in doubt as she cruised home to win by three quarters of a length.

Eziyra has now won Group contests in three consecutive years, having landed the G3 Weld Park Stakes at two, before winning last year’s G3 Give Thanks Stakes and G3 Enterprise Stakes – the same season in which she finished third in the G1 Darley Irish Oaks. She opened her 2018 account with victory in the G3 Ballyroan Stakes en route to a third-place finish in the Darley Yorkshire Oaks.

An Aga Khan homebred, Eziyra is a daughter of the Stakes-placed Dubai Destination mare Eytarna, a half-sister to four G1 winners in the Gold Cup winning pair Estimate and Enzeli, Classic heroine Ebadiyla and Moyglare Stakes Stakes winner Edabiya.

Teofilo has been enjoying a very successful year, siring G1-winning duo Happy Clapper and Humidor and a further 15 Black Type winners. He has sired no fewer than seven individual Stakes winners since the start of August, a figure that can only be bettered by fellow Darley stallion Dubawi.
