Fifth Black type victory for Dubawi’s Anna Nerium

Talented mare lands Foundation Stakes at Goodwood from fellow Dubawi galloper High End

Anna Nerium (Dubawi) had won a Stakes contest in every season she has raced to date and on Wednesday, 23 September she ensured she carried this impressive record into 2020 with victory in the Listed Foundation Stakes at Goodwood.

The Richard Hannon-trained mare was settled towards the rear, where she raced for much of the 10-furlong contest, before being asked to quicken with two furlongs left to run. As the field fanned out across the course, Anna Nerium took the lead inside the final furlong and kept on superbly to win by a length from Godolphin’s High End (who is also by Dubawi).

Anna Nerium won the G3 Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes at two, before landing the Listed European Free Handicap on her three-year-old debut. Last year she added a second Group win to her record in the G3 Princess Margaret Stakes at Epsom.

Owned and bred by Jeanette McCreery, Anna Nerium is one of three Stakes winners out of Anna Oleanda, also dam of Dubawi’s Horris Hill Stakes victor Piping Rock.

Dubawi has now sired four Black Type winners in the last week, including the Group-winning duo Lazuli and Fonthill Abbey.
