Eximius becomes 57th SW for Exceed And Excel

Smart Exceed And Excel three-year-old Eximius became the 57th Stakes winner by the prolific stallion when he led home a quinella for Darley sires in the Listed Hilton Hotels Stakes (1400m) at Flemington.

The Mick Price-trained three-year-old raced off a smart speed before narrowly defeating the Darley homebred Limes, which is a son of Commands.

Bred by Mr I Smith, Eximius was a $100,000 yearling purchase by Rockmount at the 2011 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Sydney.

Eximius is the first Stakes winner out of Allegra, which is a grand-daughter of the wonderful Darley mainstay Canny Lad. Allegra is a half-sister to the Listed performer Cat D’Antibes.

Allegra foaled a brother to Eximius on October 22 at Kia Ora Stud in New South Wales.

Exceed And Excel is currently serving his 2012 book of mares at Darley’s Kelvinside property at a service fee of $66,000 (inc. GST).
