Dubawi’s Champion juvenile Too Darn Hot has a large first crop of quality juveniles to run for him in 2023, and the market agreed with him having the highest price for any first-crop sire at Tattersalls Book 1 AND 2.
Expertly handled by the Gosden’s to win three G1s, they will be in charge of 10 of his juveniles this season including for the Lloyd-Webbers and Godolphin.
Britain’s Champion trainer of last season Charlie Appleby has nine, while others with multiple runners include Andrew Balding (6), Andre Fabre, and Charlie Johnston (both with 4).
Roger Varian, Karl Burke, Francis Graffard, and the Charltons all have multiple Too Darn Hot’s, while Richard Hannon, Jean-Claude Rouget, Archie Watson, and the Crisfords have at least one.
Blue Point was an exceptional juvenile when landing the G2 Gimcrack Stakes by three lengths, so expectations are high that his first runners will excel when they hit the track for the first time in 2023.
With a yearling average of €112,000 last season they also look the part and have found themselves in the stables of Europe’s elite trainers.
Not surprisingly Blue Point’s own handler Charlie Appleby has a high number with six, including daughters of Group winners Sand Vixen and Devonshire, both of whom have already produced Group winners.
Charlie Appleby is one of 11 European trainers that handled two or more juvenile Group winners last year and to have a Blue Point this season.
They include Richard Hannon, who has seven, Andrew Balding (with five), Charlie Johnston with four and Archie Watson, Karl Burke, and Andreas Wohler, all with multiple Blue Points, plus Coolmore, who bought a €420,000 yearling out of Badr Al Badoor in 2022.
Other high-class trainers to have runners of the three-time Royal Ascot G1-winning sprinter include: Andre Fabre, George Boughey, and the Crisfords (all with four), Ger Lyons and the Gosdens with three, Clive Cox, Jean-Claude Rouget, Sir Michael Stoute and Saeed bin Suroor with two, and Roger Varian, Richard Fahey and William Haggas having at least one.
Both stallions are just about to embark on their fourth year at stud at a fee of €35,000 for Blue Point and £40,000 for Too Darn Hot.
