Exceedingly good Stakes

G3 victory for Exceed And Excel’s daughter Mrs Kipling

Mrs Kipling has been a very consistent performer for her sire Exceed And Excel, finishing out of the frame just once in seven starts, and the three-year-old filly added further Black type to her record on 3 May with a resounding win in the G3 Senorita Stakes at Hollywood Park.

Settled well over ten lengths off the pace, Mrs Kipling came four wide around the turn and took the lead in the home straight. Easing clear of the field, she cruised home to win the one-mile contest by two-and-a-half lengths.

A Listed winner in Italy as a juvenile, Mrs Kipling was also third in the G3 Cornwallis Stakes when trained in the UK. Bought by current owner Bobby Flay at last year’s Tattersalls December Sale for 165,000 guineas, she was beaten just half a length in the G2 Providencia Stakes on her first start in the US. Trainer Neil Drysdale indicated that she will now be aimed at the G2 Honeymoon Handicap (9f) at the end of this month, en route to a possible tilt at the G1 American Oaks Invitational in July.

Exceed And Excel, Australia’s current leading second-season sire by both earnings and number of winners,  has sired six Black type winners and a further seven Black type placers in 2009 including G1 Blue Diamond winner Reward For Effort.
