Exceedance and Bivouac make it a G1 quinella for Exceed And Excel

Top colts fight out the finish of the Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington

The value of Darley stallion Exceed And Excel to the Australian breeding industry received yet another G1 endorsement with the win of Exceedance in Saturday’s Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington.

Exceedance won the race with a brilliant turn of foot that carried him to a narrow winner over Bivouac, another son of Exceed And Excel, with Libertini in third place.

In a race renowned as a “stallion maker”, Exceedance came from three lengths off the pace at the 300m, levelled up at the 100m and in the drive to the line he did his best to win by a long neck.

The result means that both the first and second placegetters have won G1 races with Bivouac destined to join his sire on the Darley stallions Australian roster.

Exceedance becomes his sire’s 14th G1 winner, having already figured among Exceed And Excel’s 163 Stakes winners thanks to his victory in the G3 San Domenico Stakes at Rosehill in August, in which he also relegated Bivouac into second place.

On their next two meetings, Bivouac scored convincing wins with Exceedance behind him on both occasions.

The winner is the only foal to race from the Thorn Park mare Bonnie Mac and was a A$180,000 purchase by Vinery Stud at the 2018 Inglis Easter Sale bred by Nick Vass.

Exceed And Excel will be standing this coming season at a fee of €40,000 Oct 1, SLF.
