Exceed And Excel leads the way at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast

An A$800,000 colt and A$775,000 filly lead to a sale-topping average of $365,000

Champion stallion Exceed And Excel finished the four-day Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast in Australia which concluded on Saturday as the leading stallion by average.

Highlighted by an A$800,000 colt and an A$775,000 filly, Exceed And Excel, who sired last year’s Magic Millions Two-year-old Classic winner Le Chef, led the way with an average of A$364,545 for his 11 lots sold.

On the opening day Ampulla Lodge’s lot 123, a colt out of Stakes performer Common Smytzer bred on the hugely successful Exceed And Excel/Snippets cross, sold to Hong Kong bloodstock agent George Moore for A$800,000. Bred by Makybe, the colt was sold as a weanling for A$300,000 at the Inglis Great Southern Sale in the middle of last year.

Also on day three, a new record price for a yearling by Poet’s Voice in Australia was achieved when his three-quarter brother to Catkins consigned by Amarina Farm as lot 570 sold to the Hong Kong Jockey Club for A$280,000. Poet's Voice was also one of the standout stallions of Book 2 on Sunday, with his three lots selling at an average of A$98,333, including a top price of A$125,000 for Riversdale's lot 1010, a colt out of Iwannabelucky. 

Lot 3 gave Sepoy a strong start to the sale when she sold to Gerald Ryan for A$280,000 and he went on to average A$133,333 for his 21 lots sold.

Exceed And Excel stands at Kildangan Stud at at a fee of €40,000 October 1st SLF, while Sepoy and Poet's Voice stand at Dalham Hall Stud at £15,000 and £12,000 respectively (both Oct 1st SLF).
