Emotionless cruises to Listed win at Newbury

Son of Shamardal leads home a Darley-sired trifecta in the Steventon Stakes

Emotionless, a five-year-old son of Shamardal, returned to the racecourse earlier this year with a promising second to subsequent G1 winner Benbatl (Dubawi) in the G3 Singspiel Stakes at Meydan. On Saturday, 21 July, he headed back into the winner’s enclosure when posting a commanding win in the Listed Steventon Stakes at Newbury.

Making all under William Buick, Charlie Appleby’s charge was always in command and drawing clear of the field once entering the final furlong, won comfortably by two lengths. Desert Encounter (by late Darley stallion Halling) finished typically fast to finish second, half a length ahead of Dawn Approach’s useful son Fajjaj.

Emotionless is one of three Black Type winners out of Unbridled Elaine, herself winner of the G1 Breeders’ Cup Distaff. She is also dam of multiple G2 winner Etched and G3 Sham Stakes winner Out Of Bounds. Unbridled Elaine is a half-sister to another G1 winner in Glitter Woman, herself the dam of G1 Suburban Handicap victor Political Force.

Shamardal has sired 19 G1 winners to date, including this year’s King’s Stand hero Blue Point and Hong Kong sensation Pakistan Star.
