Easy as 1-2-3

Darley sires dominate the G3 Sovereign Stakes, with Cape Cross’ Sea Lord narrowly beating Poet’s Voice Dubawi, with Secrecy (King’s Best) completing the trifecta

Sea Lord, a three-year-old son of Cape Cross, took the step up to Pattern level in his stride on 12 August when recording his fourth straight win to land the G3 Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury.

Sent straight to the front under Kieron Fallon, the Mark Johnston-trained colt quickened three furlongs from home and despite a magnificent late run from Poet’s Voice (Dubawi), Sea Lord held on gamely to win by a nose. Secrecy (King's Best), who - like Poet’s Voice - runs in the Godolphin blue silks, was less than a length away in third.

Bred by Darley, Sea Lord is out of the Stakes-winning Woodman mare First Fleet and is from the family of G1 winners Dance Number and Private Account.

Cape Cross has now sired 33 Group winners in total, and no fewer than eight this year including G1-winning duo Bekhabad and Able One.
