Dubawi sires his fourth G1 2,000 Guineas winner

Notable Speech lands the first Classic of the season in tremendous style

Notable Speech took a giant step forward in his career to win his first top-flight race as he landed the G1 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket in tremendous fashion on Saturday, 4 May, becoming Dubawi’s fourth winner of this race.  He now remains unbeaten in four starts.

The beautiful chestnut colt, who is trained by Charlie Appleby, was unraced as a two-year-old and began his career at three with a maiden win at Kempton at the end of January. He returned to the same track twice more, in February and April, to post a further two victories in condition races, winning those by a combined three lengths.

Running on grass for the first time in the first Classic of the season, Notable Speech was taken back and tucked in in the early stages of the race by William Buick. In the final three furlongs he was eased out of the pack for a run and moved effortlessly up to the leaders. When pressed, he took up the lead in the final furlong to win by a comfortable length and a half from Rosallion (Blue Point) who finished a creditable second.

Owned and bred by Godolphin, Notable Speech is the first first foal out of the Stakes-placed mare, Swift Rose (Invincible Spirit), herself a daughter of Stakes-winning mare, Tulips, who also produced G1 heroine Wild Beauty and G3-winner, Desert Wisdom.

Dubawi is now the sire of 58 individual G1 winners. The Champion sire is responsible for 11 individual Stakes winners so far this year, including Rebel's Romance (G1 Sheema Classic) and Master Of The Seas (G1 Maker’s Mark Mile). His three-year-old daughter, Pretty Crystal, who won the G3 Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket in April, lines up in tomorrow’s G1 1,000 Guineas.
