Dubawi’s smart son remains unbeaten with Deauville Listed win

Two-year-old Al Hilalee lands Criterium du Fonds Europeen de l'Elevage

Dubawi looks to have another smart juvenile in the making, as on Saturday, 18 August, his son Al Hilalee successfully stepped up to Stakes level, landing the one-mile Criterium du Fonds Europeen de l’Elevage at Deauville.

Despite being slightly slowly away, Charlie Appleby’s charge soon moved up to dispute the lead and asked for his effort a furlong from home, saw off tremendous late runs from Duke Of Hazzard and Great Scot to prevail by a short head.

Al Hilalee made an eye-catching racecourse debut at Newmarket last month, taking a seven-furlong maiden by over three lengths.

Al Hilalee is the first foal to race out of Authorized’s G1 Pretty Polly Stakes winner Ambivalent, who has a yearling full sister to Al Hilalee.

Dubawi is enjoying an outstanding year, recording his 100th individual Group winner in July – becoming the first British-based stallion to achieve this remarkable feat. He is also sire of three G1 winners this year in Benbatl, Wild Illusion and North America.
