Dubawi day at Newmarket

Lazuli wins the G3 Palace House Stakes and Creative Force impresses; Master Of The Seas is narrowly denied in the 2,000 Guineas

Dubawi enjoyed a magnificent opening day of Newmarket’s Guineas meeting when siring a brace of winners and a very narrow 2,000 Guineas second.

Creative Force set the ball rolling in the opening six furlong handicap for Charlie Appleby and William Buick. Now the winner of three of four career starts, he was winning off a handicap rating of 97 and a step up into Stakes company now looks assured.

The first Pattern race of the meeting fell to the same connections when Lazuli recorded his third Stakes victory in the G3 Palace House Stakes over five furlongs. Always stalking a strong pace, he struck the front on the final climb to the line and held on tenaciously for a neck victory.

Lazuli has now won six times in a 11-race career with last season’s highlights including a G3 triumph in the World Trophy at Newbury.

Darley-sired one-two in the G1 2,000 Guineas

Dubawi so nearly completed the hat-trick in the big race of the meeting when Master Of The Seas was denied by the Darley-sired Poetic Flare (Dawn Approach) in the 2,000 Guineas. Coming into the race on the back of a win in the G3 Craven Stakes, the G2-winning juvenile was just denied on the line by a short-head. His paternal half-brother and stablemate Naval Crown also ran an excellent race from the front to finish fourth.
