Discovery Island earns first Group victory at Meydan

Son of Dubawi lands G3 Burj Nahaar

Discovery Island earned a well-deserved first career Group victory when landing the G3 Burj Nahaar on Saturday, 4 March at Meydan. Already a winner of three races, the son of Dubawi placed second on his first try in Group company in the G2 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 1 on his first start of the year in January.

Trained by Bhupat Seemar, the six-year-old who was partnered by James Doyle sat mid-field throughout the 1600m race, he then began to make steady headway on the outside in the home straight, he soon led with 300m to run and under a hands and heels ride went on to win by one-and-a-half lengths.

Bred by Godolphin, Discovery Island is a first foal out of the Stakes-winning Shamardal mare, Sperry, she is a half-sister to five winners including Listed winner Dunelight.

Champion sire of 2022, Dubawi achieved his 250th individual Stakes winner in February when Lake Lucerne won the Listed Albert M. Stall Memorial Stakes at Fair Grounds. So far this year Dubawi has sired 10 Stakes winners including G2 victors Valiant Prince, Al Suhail and Master Of The Seas.
