Daughter of Dubawi lands the Irish 1,000 Guineas Trial

Bean Feasa, a half-sister to Teofilo, breaks her maiden in Group-winning fashion at Leopardstown

Dubawi has a new Classic contender in Bean Feasa, after the three-year-old filly posted a convincing win in the 1,000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown on 7 May.

The Jim Bolger-trained filly, racing in the Godolphin Blue, was settled in second under Kevin Manning, stalking the early pace set by Asking. Once asked for her effort in the home straight, Bean Feasa demonstrated an impressive turn of foot to reel in the long-time leader and drew clear to win by two and three-quarter lengths.

Her victory comes 16 years after her own dam Speirbhean won this race, who remarkably was also a maiden at the time.

Speirbhean is of course also dam of fellow Darley stallion Teofilo, unbeaten Champion two-year-old and now a leading sire.

Dubawi has now sired 20 Black type performers this year, headed by G1 Gulfstream Park Turf winner Almanaar. His son Zarak finished a very close second to Cloth Of Stars in last Monday’s G1 Prix Ganay – the meeting which also saw fellow Dubawi colt Wolf Country take the Listed Prix de l’Avre.

Dubawi stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £250,000 October 1st SLF.
