Daughter of Dubawi lands the G1 Stradbroke

Srikandi leads home a Darley-sired 1-2-3 to become her sire's 19th G1 winner

Four-year-old Dubawi mare Srikandi led home a Darley-sired trifecta in the G1 Stradbroke Handicap at Doomben on 6 June, becoming the 19th career G1 winner for her sire and his seventh this year alone.

Ridden brilliantly from an inside barrier by Kerrin McEvoy, Srikandi stalked the speed early before making her move on the home turn. She strode up to the leaders on straightening and dashed clear with a furlong to go before holding off the late challenges of four-time G1 winner Boban (Bernardini) and Generalife (Lonhro), who finished second and third respectively.

Bred by John Collins, Srikandi is out of Hurricane Sky mare Raining and is a half-sister to G3 winner Rain Gal as well as Stakes performer Arjuna. The win was Srikandi’s eighth win in 12 career starts and took her earnings beyond $1.8 million.

Dubawi is enjoying an incredible run of success with Srikandi joining Tattersalls Gold Cup hero Al Kazeem and Prix du Jockey Club victor New Bay as G1 winners in the past two weeks alone. He has sired more Stakes winners, Group winners and G1 winners than any other stallion in the world this year.
