Darley freshman in demand at Goffs

Six-figure average for first Teofilo foals offered in the sales ring

Teofilo's first weanlings came up for auction in the Goffs November Sale with four selling for an average of €105,500.

As breeder of Teofilo and the man responsible for training him to be unbeaten Champion two-year-old, it was no surprise to see Jim Bolger’s name on the buyers’ list. He signed for the fifth top-priced foal of the sale, a filly out of Najmati, the full-sister to last year’s leading first-season sire Kheleyf and Bint Allayl, for €150,000.

Kennycourt Stud took home a colt out of Group Three winner Redstone Dancer for €110,000 while Paddy Twomey secured another colt, from the G1-placed Livadiya, for €100,000. The only other Teofilo foal offered was a filly consigned by Tinnakill House out of Queen Mary Stakes winner Shining Hour, who made €62,000 when sold to Ennistown Stud.

Manduro also has his first foals in the sales ring this winter and all eight catalogued for Goffs found new homes, selling at an average of €41,750. Highlights included Coolnahay Stud’s filly out of Ribblesdale, who was bought by FLC SRL for €85,000 and a half-brother to Group Three winner Indian Maiden, out of Jinsiyah, who was knocked down for €55,000 to Lynn Lodge Stud.

Of the established sires, Cape Cross had six weanlings sell for an average of €85,000. Cloneymore Farm’s colt out of the dual Group Three-winning Danetime mare Miss Sally fetched €160,000 and was the third highest-priced foal of the sale.

The foal sales continue at Tattersalls on Wedenesday with 18 first-crop sons and daughters of Authorized scheduled to sell and a further 16 each by Teofilo and Manduro.
