Danawi shows speed and tenacity in Rosehill G3 win

Exceed And Excel records his first Stakes winner of the new Australian season

Three-year-old colt Danawi showed the sustained speed that has come to be expected from the progeny of Exceed And Excel to give his sire his first Stakes win of the new Australian season in the G3 Ming Dynasty Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday, 25 August.

After easily holding the lead on settling down, Danawi rolled along in front and had most of his opposition off the bit with 200m to run. With only the runner-up Mizzy posing a danger close to home, the colt clung to the lead to win by a nose.

A A$400,000 yearling purchase at the 2017 Inglis Easter Sale, Danawi is out of dual G1 winner Secret Admirer and from a female family that includes fellow G1 winner Donegal Mist.

Prior to his Ming Dynasty win, Danawi had registered second placings on his three previous starts, most recently in the G3 Up And Coming Stakes.

Exceed And Excel is sire of a further 12 Black Type winners so far this year, including multiple Group winner Heavy Metal, and G1 performers James Garfield and Threading. He has four yearlings catalogued at next week's Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale.
