Curragh Cup victory for son of Teofilo

Twilight Payment adds his fourth victory at Black Type level in thrilling style at the Curragh

Teofilo’s consistent son Twilight Payment added a well-deserved Group victory to his record on Friday, 28 June when he outbattled Latrobe in an exciting renewal of the G2 Curragh Cup.

Jim Bolger’s charge soon took up the running under Kevin Manning and dictated the pace for much of the 14-furlong contest. Still clear as the field began to quicken for home, last year’s Irish Derby winner Latrobe laid down a sustained challenge inside the final two furlongs, but Twilight Payment battled superbly to win by a neck, with the pair almost three lengths clear of the third-placed horse.

Twilight Payment now has four Black Type wins to his name, having won the Listed Loughbrown Stakes at three and the Listed Her Majesty’s Plate last year. He landed the Listed Saval Beg Stakes on his most recent start, on Friday, 17 May at Leopardstown.

Bred by his trainer Jim Bolger, he is out of the Oasis Dream mare Dream On Buddy, twice a winner as three-year-old over a mile. He hails from the extended family of Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Carnegie.

Teofilo is also sire this year of G1 winner Irishcorrespondent (now racing as Exultant), plus G2 Dubai Gold Cup winner Cross Counter, who won last year’s G1 Melbourne Cup.
