Covid-19: revised stallion yard protocols for the UK

In these unprecedented times, we have revised our procedures for mares visiting Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket as the statement below details.

Please remember that if you are a MyDarley user, you can submit mare information forms online at www.darley.co.uk/me.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Nominations Team either on their mobiles or on +44 1638 730070.

The updated procedures are as follows:

Mares with foals at foot: Foals should remain on the horsebox (or at home) especially if travelling a short distance. However, we do accept that there may be exceptions to this and if so please make us aware when you book your mare for covering.

Mare owners, staff and box drivers should stay with their vehicles. No mare owners will be allowed in the viewing gallery.

All paperwork should, wherever possible, be sent electronically in advance, including passport information. Please ensure all paperwork is legible and forwarded in a timely manner. If it is not possible to send electronically, stallion stud staff will take every precaution when handling paperwork. Please advise the stallion stud prior to your arrival that this is the case and ideally when booking a covering.

Stallion stud staff will take mares from horsebox to covering and back to the horsebox.

Stallion stud staff will exercise every precaution when handling visiting mares. This will include use of hand wipes, gels, disinfectants and cleaning of stallion stud farm bridles if used.

These measures are in addition to all current requirements and possible rapidly changing government health requirements. It is hoped to avoid or minimise direct contact between stallion farm staff and visiting mare owners, transporters and staff.

It would also be greatly appreciated if any outstanding Mare Forms could please be forwarded to the Stud Office prior to contacting us to book a covering. This will help us at this difficult time when staffing levels could be reduced. We cannot cover any mare without a completed mare form.
