A brilliant display of speed and determination carried Coruscate to a debut Stakes win in Saturday’s Listed Testa Rossa Stakes at Caulfield that added to both the record of his sire Exceed And Excel and made him a worthy member of an exclusive Godolphin family.

Coruscate is an older brother to the classy sprinter Bivouac, winner of last season’s G1 Newmarket at Flemington Handicap and the G1 Golden Rose at Rosehill.

Both are sons of Dazzler, a daughter of the G1 winner Camarilla, the dam of the multiple G1 winner Guelph who was raced by Sheikh Mohammed.

Camarilla is out of Camarena, a filly who beat the boys in the G1 Queensland Derby.

Jockey Damien Oliver had Coruscate quickly into stride and took up a position behind the early leader.

Switched off the fence turning for home, Coruscate sprinted quickly to establish a clear lead that he held to the line, scoring by 2-1/4 lengths from Runson.

He becomes the 176th Stakes winner for Exceed and Excel who this year served his final northern-hemisphere season is standing the current southern-hemisphere season at Kelvinside, NSW, at a service fee of $132,000.
