Shamardal’s Gingerbread Man on course to become Horse of the Year for the third time, winning the Stewards’ Cup in Singapore

Gingerbread Man has been a tremendous campaigner for Shamardal in Singapore – taking Horse of the Year honours at both two and three and on 3 June he staked his claim to regain his title at four when landing the Listed Stewards’ Cup (a local G2 contest).

Settled in fifth position under jockey Opie Bosson, Gingerbread Man took the lead once the field entered the straight and despite being hard pressed close to home, held on gamely for a three-quarter-length  victory over Rafaga.

This was the eleventh career victory for the four-year-old, who has also been placed on a further seven occasions in 20 starts. He will now be aimed at the Patron’s Bowl (a local G1 race) in three weeks’ time.

Bred by Mr R Harvey, Gingerbread Man is out of the Hurricane Sky mare Quaffle, also dam of another winner in Quaffle On (Exceed And Excel). He is from the family of multiple G1 winner Spyglass.

Shamardal has sired no fewer than 14 Black type performers so far in 2012, headed up by G1-winning duo Sagawara and Crackerjack King.
