Brilliant win for Thunder Snow in the Dubai World Cup

Son of Helmet wins his third G1 in Meydan showpiece

Thunder Snow capped a magnificent night for Godolphin when landing the Meydan showpiece, the Dubai World Cup, in tremendous style. Sent to front from a wide draw, Christophe Soumillion dictated the fractions before going clear in the straight, eventually running out the very easy five-and-three-quarter length winner. Dubawi’s consistent son Mubtaahij ran his normal gallant race to finish third.

Thunder Snow has now won a G1 in each of his three seasons to race after landing the Criterium International at Saint-Cloud as a juvenile and the one-mile Prix Jean Prat last season at Chantilly.

He is son of the Dubai Destination mare Eastern Joy who has become one of the world’s leading broodmares. Her first five foals are all Stakes winners including Group winners Ihtimal (Shamardal) and First Victory (Teofilo) plus Royal Ascot Stakes winner Always Smile (Cape Cross) and this seasons UAE 1,000 Guineas heroine Winter Lightning (Shamardal).

Thunder Snow is the best runner sired by Helmet who also has Italian Classic winner Anda Muchacho, winner of six of his seven starts, and the highly rated Stakes winning pair Eqtiraan and Taamol. Helmet is standing this season at a fee of £12,000 Oct 1, Special Live Foal.
