Blue Point wins his second successive G1 King’s Stand Stakes

Son of Shamardal triumphs again at Royal Ascot

Shamardal’s superb son Blue Point gained his second successive victory in the G1 King’s Stand Stakes on Tuesday, 18 June, a feat achieved only once in the previous 85 years. Coming out of stall one under jockey James Doyle, he cruised into contention in the final two furlongs, and after a sustained dual with Battaash, he drew clear to win by one and a quarter lengths.

A brilliant juvenile when winning the G2 Gimcrack Stakes by three lengths, he was recording his tenth victory in 19 career starts. This was his third top-flight triumph after last season’s win and an easy success in the Al Quoz Sprint back in March.

Bred by Oak Lodge Stud and bought as a yearling for 200,000Gns, he is a half-brother to Group-winning juvenile Formosina and from the family of five-time Group winner Tumbleweed Ridge. His dam, Scarlett Rose is by the Champion sprinter Royal Applause.

Blue Point is one of 22 G1 winners sired by Shamardal, including this season’s Classic heroine Castle Lady, who is due to line up in the G1 Coronation Stakes on Friday.
