Emilia James

Smart two-year-old in the making for Poet’s Voice as his daughter wins by four lengths at Beverley

Poet’s Voice filly Emilia James made her racecourse debut just eight days ago and finished a creditable second, beaten just a length over five furlongs at Beverley.

On 27 April, Mark Johnston’s charge returned to the same course and went one better in superb style, making all and soon moving clear once asked to quicken a furlong out to win by an impressive four lengths.

Emilia Lily was bred by Red House Stud and Ketton Ashwell Ltd and is out of Exceed And Excel’s multiple winner Dozy. The mare is herself a half-sister to talented two-year-old Patience Alexander, winner of the Listed Marygate Stakes and third in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Emilia Lily is already the third juvenile winner out of an Exceed And Excel mare this year – another being Sepoy’s promising son Excellently Poised (rated 88p by Timeform).

Poet’s Voice has sired 21 European winners in 2017, including recent G3 winner Voice Of Love (who added a fourth Black type win to his record last Sunday), plus Nell Gwyn third and English 1,000 Guineas hopeful Poet’s Vanity.
