Back to back Stakes wins for Kulgrinda

Exceed And Excel mare caps off remarkable week for her sire

After ending the 2010/2011 Australian racing season with a Stakes win, the Peter Moody-trained Exceed And Excel mare Kulgrinda has returned this season in the same vein, winning the Listed Printhouse Graphic Stakes over 1000m at Moonee Valley on August 20.

Jumping from barrier 1, and incidentally the third consecutive Stakes winner from that gate, Kulgrinda positioned behind the leaders before pouncing as the field went for home, taking the race by two-and-a-quarter lengths.

With four global Stakes winners in the last week highlighted by the G1 Nunthorpe Stakes victory by three-year-old filly Margot Did, Exceed And Excel is the sire of 40 worldwide Stakes winners, which also includes G1-winning juveniles Helmet and Reward For Effort.

Bred by David Moodie’s Contract Racing, Kulgrinda is out of the Stakes performed Bellotto mare River Crossing, a half-sister to G1 winner River Dove. Booked to visit Exceed And Excel during the forthcoming Australian breeding season, River Crossing is just one of a plethora of Stakes producing and winning dams set to be covered by the dual G1-winning son of Danehill.
