Arabian Crown remains a live Derby contender for Dubawi

Godolphin colt easily lands G3 Classic Trial at Sandown; Night Of Thunder filly Thunder Roll adds more Black Type to her record at Cork

Exciting three-year-old colt Arabian Crown (Dubawi) took a huge step closer to the Derby on Friday, 26 April with a very convincing win in the G3 Classic Trial at Sandown, recording his fourth straight victory in the process.

Soon in front under William Buick, Arabian Crown travelled smoothly throughout the 10-furlong contest and was never seriously challenged, easing clear during the closing stages to win by three and a quarter lengths.

The Charlie Appleby-trained colt broke his maiden at Sandown last July, before stepping up in class to take the Listed Stonehenge Stakes at Salisbury the following month. He rounded off his juvenile campaign with a five-and-a-half-length romp in the G3 Ghaiyyath Zetland Stakes at Newmarket during the Dubai Future Champions Festival.

Arabian Crown was bred by G B Partnership and is one of seven winners out of the Stakes-winning Dubai Destination mare Dubai Rose, making him a half-brother to multiple G2 winner The Juliet Rose and a full brother to Listed winner Everest Rose.

Also on Friday, Night Of Thunder’s four-year-old daughter Thunder Roll added another Black Type win to her CV when landing the Listed Noblesse Stakes at Cork.

Joseph O’Brien’s charge was never far from the pace and took the lead two furlongs out. She kept on well inside the final furlong to take the 12-furlong contest by half a length from Sumiha.

Thunder Roll, who also won the Listed Oyster Stakes last year, was bred by Whisperview Trading Limited. She is out of the winning Pivotal mare Swingland, herself a half-sister to G2 winner Under The Rainbow.

Night Of Thunder stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €100,000, Oct 1, SLF.
