Three-time G1 winner Ombudsman had a perfect Royal Ascot preparation on Thursday, 28 May when landing the G3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown Park. The son of Night Of Thunder was carrying a 7lb penalty, and although he had to battle in the final furlong to get the better of Gethin (Ghaiyyath), he hit the line with something to spare.
The exciting stallion prospect has now won eight of this 11 starts including the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes and Juddmonte International last season, and the G1 Dubai Turf back in March. He now heads back to Royal Ascot looking to repeat his victory in the ten-furlong feature.
Bred by James Hanly and a 340,000gns yearling, Ombudsman is a son of the winning Dansili mare Syndicate, a half-sister to two Stakes winners.
Earlier in the card Dubai Future became Godolphin’s oldest ever winner and secured his G1 Gold Cup place with a superb display in the G3 Henry II Stakes.
The son of Dubawi had already enjoyed a storied career for Saeed bin Suroor, with three previous Group-race victories including last year’s G2 Dubai Gold Cup, and was making the third appearance of his 10-year-old campaign.
Night Of Thunder and Dubawi are both having spectacular seasons, siring 22 Stakes winners between them this year. They include G1 winners, and future Darley Stallions, Ombudsman and Bow Echo (both Night Of Thunder) and Notable Speech (Dubawi).
