Al Suhail returns to winning ways in Sir Henry Cecil Stakes

Talented Dubawi colt takes Listed contest by six lengths at Newmarket

Dubawi recorded a new Stakes winner in tremendous style on Thursday, 9 July when his three-year-old son Al Suhail ran out the emphatic winner of the Listed Sir Henry Cecil Stakes at Newmarket’s July course.

The Charlie Appleby-trained colt was settled in fifth under William Buick, before being asked to quicken once inside the final two furlongs. Al Suhail picked up impressively and soon took the lead, before easing clear of his rivals to win by no fewer than six lengths.

Al Suhail boasts some impressive two-year-old form, finishing second to Military March (New Approach) in the G3 Autumn Stakes and third in the Solario.

Bred by Meon Valley Stud, Al Suhail is out of dual Oaks runner up Shirocco Star, making him a half-brother to last year’s Dante winner Telecaster (New Approach) – who recently returned to form with victory in the G3 La Coupe.

Dubawi is now responsible for 125 Stakes wins in the Godolphin blue, and has sired 12 individual Black Type winners so far this year. They are headed by his best son yet, Ghaiyyath, winner of the Coronation Cup and the Eclipse this season. Dubawi is also sire of G1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes hero Lord North.
