1-2 for the Darley sires in Listed Baden-Baden Cup

Three-year-old Shamardal filly Celebrity leads from pillar to post, finishing just ahead of Sunny Belle (Exceed And Excel)

Shamardal recorded a new Stakes winner in tenacious style on Wednesday, 30 August when his three-year-old daughter Celebrity led the entire way to land the seven-furlong Listed Baden-Baden Cup in Germany.

Dominik Moser’s charge travelled smoothly throughout and battled superbly close to home to just hold off the late challenge from Exceed And Excel filly Sunny Belle.

This was the third career win for Celebrity, who races in the colours of her owner/breeders Gestüt Brümmerhof.

Celebrity is out of the Group-winning mare Cherry Danon, who also finished second in the German 1,000 Guineas. They are from the family of Shamardal’s multiple G2 winner Sommerabend.

Shamardal has 18 G1 winners to his name and boasts an impressive 11% Stakes winners to runners. This year he has sired 22 horses who have won or placed at Black type level, including five who have made the frame in G1 contests.
