National Pride the latest winner for Naval Crown

Two-year-old colt storms home at Chelmsford to add to his first-season sire’s tally

Naval Crown added a new winner to his record on Thursday, 5 November when his son National Pride flew down the home straight at Chelmsford to land the seven-furlong nursery.

Sent off as favourite, William Haggas’s charge raced off the pace early on and looked to have plenty to do as the field began to quicken for home. However, under a determined ride from Cieren Fallon, National Pride swept past his rivals and won going away by a length and a quarter.

Bred by Robert Draper and a 72,000 guineas breeze up purchase, National Pride is one of two winners from two foals to race out of the Frankel mare A Touch Of Luck, herself a daughter of G1 placegetter Aigrette Garzette.

Naval Crown has made a very promising start to his stud career, siring Group winner Sea Of Rain plus two Group horses in Dance A Jig and Hell of A Spin – the latter of whom was last seen finishing second in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint, having already earned a Timeform rating of 106 following his third in the G1 Middle Park.
