Pina Sonata looked to appreciate the drop back to 7f when running away with the G3 Sceptre Fillies' Stakes at Doncaster on Sunday 13th September.
The four-year-old daughter of Pinatubo has been plying her trade in some illustrious company this season and was last seen at Royal Ascot, following on from her Listed win over 1m at Kempton in March.
Racing enthusiastically from the stalls, Daniel Muscutt positioned his mount in midfield to give her some cover and encourage her to settle behind the decent pace. As the field increased the tempo, the James Fanshawe-trained filly looked happy to stretch out and use her stride, quickly hitting the front before going on to score comfortably by a length and a half.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift (uk) Ltd out of the winning mare Moonlight Sonata (Galileo), herself a half-sister to Gordon Richards, Brigadier Gerard and Ormonde Stakes winner Western Hymn (High Chaparral), Pina Sonata is a half-sister to Winter Derby winner Sky Safari (Zoustar).
In 2025, Pinatubo was only bettered by champion sire Night Of Thunder in his ratio of 14% Black Type performers to runners, putting him above any stallion standing in Britain. With top-class performers including Saddadd, Qilin Queen and Komorebi representing him on the track and strong third-crop yearlings which realised up to 340,000 gns in the sales ring, he has earned his seat at the top table.
