Amberglen made the transition from entry level allowance company to Graded Stakes company look seamless with a sharp, one-and-a-quarter length victory in the G3 Lake George Stakes at Saratoga on Saturday, 1 August.
The victory improved the Night Of Thunder filly’s overall record to three wins and a second-place finish in five career starts. Her only off-the-board finish came in the Wait a While Stakes at Gulfstream Park, after the race was moved off the turf to the synthetic Tapeta course.
Ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr., Amberglen rated off the early pace set by Candy Moonshine for the opening six furlongs of the Lake George. Amberglen moved readily to command while still under a snug hold approaching the quarter pole, edged clear when sharply roused in early stretch, and was never seriously threatened while kept under strong handling to the end.
Deep Learning raced in mid-pack during the early going, swung six wide to commence her bid into the stretch and finished strongest of all down the center of the course to be second best. It was another neck farther back to Honfleur in third.
Amberglen was bred in Ireland by Sunderland Holding LLC and is out of the winning Sea The Stars mare, Sea Empress. In addition to Amberglen, Sea Empress is also the dam of G2-placed Green Empress (by Saxon Warrior).
