There was a remarkable finish to the 1000m contest in Italy when Toto Truffa, a debutant son of Perfect Power, made a last-to-first bid when easily taking the spoils.
After a slow jump from the stalls, the Stefano Botti-trained two-year-old was behind the field as they set off at a breakneck speed. With the fierce gallop inevitably coming apart, Toto Truffa passed one rival which appeared to ignite his effort and he engaged a stunning turn of foot to sprint past all before him. Without coming off the bridle and scorching away clear over the line without any encouragement from jockey Mario Sanna, he looked far superior to the competition.
Bred by Carmel Stud from the mare Boodley (Acclamation), Toto Truffa was bought at the Goffs UK breeze-up sale in April by Valfredo Valiani.
Perfect Power was a precocious multiple Group winner as a juvenile and his first crop have impressed, with some very respected paddock judges among those who have purchased his yearlings. A top price of 260,000gns demonstrating how much his early progeny are in demand.
