Hotazhell, Jessica Harrington's globetrotting colt, held on gamely to claim another G1 victory in the Grosser Dallmayr-Preis - Bayerishes Zuchtrennen over 2000m at Munich on Sunday 26th July.
The four-year-old son of Too Darn Hot was bidding for a brace of victories at the highest level when making just about all in the G1 contest. Shane Foley determined to make the most of his mount's class by dominating the field from the off, riding positively from the front. As the field rounded the home bend, Hotazhell responded to his jockey's urgings as the pack bore down, most notably Timeforshowcasing, last seen when running away with the German 1000 guineas and the beneficiary of a 12lb pull at the weights. While it looked as though Charlie Johnston's filly briefly headed Hotazhell, the colt fought bravely back, winning by the shortest of margins.
Hotazhell, whose last win was in the G1 Futurity Stakes at Doncaster in October 2024, has been plying his trade in some stellar contests around the world with great credit. Bred by Blue Diamond Stud Ltd, he is the most prolific offspring from his dam, Azenzar (Danehill Dancer).
Too Darn Hot is rapidly ascending the stallion ranks, with numerous G1 winners among his progeny. Boasting multiple G1 winner Fallen Angel from his first crop and subsequent stars Native Approach, Tornado Alert, Broadsiding and Title Role carrying the torch at the top level around the world, he is certainly living up to his name and in high demand from breeders.
