Another Stakes winner for Too Darn Hot

Hot And High produces a late surge to snatch Listed victory

There was a thrilling finish to the Listed Belmont Guineas over 1600m at Belmont Park, Australia on Saturday 20th June when Hot And High, a three-year-old daughter of Too Darn Hot, ran down the leader close home to prevail by a nose.

The Dion Luciani-trained filly has proved ultra consistent, having won six of her seven career starts and only going down by a whisker in her penultimate start in a Listed race over 1400m on 6th June. She once again showed her iron will when stepped up to 1600m, bearing down on Prince of Dala, who had looked the likely winner, with the two pulling well clear of the third. Jockey Lucy Fiore had her mount well placed in mid-field and, when Prince of Dala made what looked to be a race-winning move 100m from home, Hot And High set off in pursuit, ultimately outrunning and stealing victory from the leader.

Bred by Cape Falls Thoroughbreds WA out of their mare High Conviction (Snitzel), Hot And High looks a model of versatility, having won from 1000m to 1600m. The fact that her race distances have increased incrementally has proved no barrier to her success and her sole defeat was by the shortest margin.

Too Darn Hot is keen to emulate his sire Dubawi as a sire of champions, with stars such as Fallen Angel, Native Approach, Tornado Alert and Broadsiding in his firmament.
