Easy G1 win for Pinatubo at the Curragh

Son of Shamardal wins the Vincent O’Brien National Stakes by nine lengths

Pinatubo cemented his place as the best two-year-old of Europe in spectacular style on Sunday, 15 September when winning the Vincent O’Brien National Stakes at the Curragh. Coming into the race unbeaten in four career starts, the son of Shamardal was always cruising under jockey William Buick and was never extended, dashing clear in the final two furlongs to win by nine lengths.

The next likely target for Europe’s Champion Juvenile elect will be the G1 Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket.

This was the second successive victory in the race for Godolphin, Charlie Appleby and Darley stallions after last year’s win for Dubawi’s son Quorto

Pinatubo is out of the Stakes-winning Dalakhani mare Lava Flow, who has a 2019 filly foal by Teofilo.

Shamardal is sire of 14 individual Stakes winners so far this year, headed by Royal Ascot hero and new Darley stallion Blue Point, Classic heroine Castle Lady and unbeaten G1-winning juvenile Earthlight.
