New Stakes winner for Shamardal

Mawaal lands the Premio Regione Toscana to become his sire’s 10th Black type performer of the year

Shamardal has been enjoying a very successful year, courtesy of his Hong Kong superstar and multiple G1 winner Able Friend, plus exciting Winter Derby victor Tryster, and on 29 March, he took his tally of 2015 Black type performers into double figures when his son Mawaal took the Listed Premio Regione Toscana at Pisa.

This was the sixth career victory for Mawaal, who took the 11-furlong contest by a head. He was bred by Shadwell Stud and is out of the multiple Group winner Perfect Plum (Darshaan) and is from the family of G1 winners and Champions Caerwent and Marling.

Shamardal, sire of 13 G1 winners to date, is also sire this year of progressive Stakes winner Fond Words, who is likely to step up to Group level on her next start.

Shamardal stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €70,000 October 1st SLF.
