Workforce, the record-breaking Derby winner by King's Best, returned to winning ways in truly spectacular fashion on 3 October when sweeping down the Longchamp straight to win one of Europe’s most coveted races, the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
Settled in midfield under Ryan Moore, Workforce took up the running once entering the home straight and outbattled Japanese challenger Nakayama Festa impressively to win by a head.
Winner of the Derby by seven lengths and in record-breaking time, he becomes just the sixth horse in history to win both the Derby and the Arc. He provided his trainer Sir Michael Stoute with his first winner of this time-honoured race.
Workforce became the second consecutive Darley-sired winner of the Arc, following the outstanding win by Sea The Stars (Cape Cross) in 2009.
Owned and bred by Khalid Abdullah, Workforce is out of the unraced Sadler’s Wells mare Soviet Moon, a full sister to multiple G1 winner Brian Boru.
He is one of six G1 winners for King’s Best, who is also sire of Japanese Derby winner Eishin Flash in 2010.
