The winners keep coming for Shamardal

Juvenile filly Velvet Moss records a game victory on her debut to become her sire’s twelfth winner

First-season sire Shamardal recorded his twelfth individual winner and fourth winner in the past fortnight on 27 August when his daughter Velvet Moss won on her racecourse debut at Woodbine, Canada.

Settled off the pace, Velvet Moss was switched to the outside entering the home straight and responded gamely to get up and win the six-furlong contest by a head.

Owned and bred by Frank Stronach’s Stronach Stables and Adena Springs, she is the first foal out of the Stakes-placed Notebook mare Maysville and is from the family of Epitome.

Shamardal is also sire of G3 Solario Stakes winner Shakespearean and the highly-rated Listed winner Arctic, plus southern hemisphere Black type performers Marquardt and Premardal.
