Third G1 winner for Exceed And Excel

Margot Did continues a great week for her sire with victory in the Nunthorpe Stakes

Three-year-old Margot Did recorded a scorching triumph in the G1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York to become Exceed And Excel's third Group One winner worldwide and his third Group winner of the week in Britain.

A dual Listed winner already this season, the diminutive filly won twice at two and was runner-up three times at Group level last season. In 13 starts, she has only once finished out of the first four when finishing fifth in the G1 Cheveley Park Stakes.

Bred by Nicky Hartery, Margot Did is a daughter of the multiple-winning Shareef Dancer mare Special Dancer and was bought for the bargain price of 10,000gns at Tattersalls’ 2010 Craven breeze-up sale.

Her Group One victory at York comes just 24 hours after Exceed And Excel’s two-year-old daughter Best Terms remained unbeaten to win her second Group Two race of the campaign, the Lowther Stakes, while on Saturday, three-year-old colt Excelebration won Newbury’s G2 Hungerford Stakes by six lengths. Also at York, two-year-old Burwaaz finished third in the G2 Gimcrack Stakes.

Exceed And Excel is also the sire of two Group One-winning juveniles in Australia, the Blue Diamond Stakes winner Reward For Effort and Helmet, who won the Champagne Stakes in April.
