Sweet smell of success

Iffraaj’s speedy juvenile Hot Streak remains unbeaten when landing the Roses Stakes

Hot Streak, a two-year-old son of Iffraaj, made a very pleasing debut on the Knavesmire last month when winning by over two lengths in the six-furlong maiden and on 24 August he took the step up to Black type level in his stride when easily winning the Listed Roses Stakes at the same course.

Despite being slowly away, the Kevin Ryan-trained colt was soon in touch and once hitting the front in the closing stages, kept to his task superbly to win by two lengths.

Bred by Barry Noonan and now running in the colours of Qatar Racing, Hot Streak becomes the second Stakes performer out of the unraced mare Ashirah, herself a granddaughter of blue hen Height Of Fashion – dam of Nayef, Nashwan and Unfuwan and a further five Black type performers.

Iffraaj, who was a record-breaking first-season sire, is also sire this year of Queen Mary Stakes winner and G1 Prix Morny third Rizeena (who holds an entry in next weekend’s G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes). Further afield he is also sire of NZ Filly of the Year Fix, winner of three G2 contests last season and second in the G1 NZ Derby.
