Super Espresso strong in New York stakes win

Four-year-old becomes Medaglia d’Oro’s 22nd stakes winner

Her first start in Stakes company did little to change what is becoming a bit of a habit for Medaglia d'Oro’s Super Espresso; that is, finishing first, no matter what the race. She has now won three straight for trainer Todd Pletcher and shows another second and two thirds from seven career starts on the dirt.

In today’s Sky Beauty Stakes at Aqueduct, the four-year-old filly tracked the leaders throughout in mid pack and then took aim at the front runners at the top of the lane. She was able to wrestle the lead from game second-place finisher Diva’s Gold near the wire to win by a long head.

Bred by Liberation Farm and Stonewall Farm, Super Espresso races in the colors of international Chef Bobby Flay. She is a half-sister to G2 winner and G1-placed King of Rome and is out of a half-sister to champion Althea, she the granddam of leading sire Arch.

Super Espresso is the 22nd Stakes winner sired by Medaglia d’Oro whose other runners include Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra, as well as 2010 G1 Stakes winners Warrior’s Reward, Champagne d’Oro and Gabby’s Golden Gal.
