Successful start to the yearling sales for Slade Power

First youngsters by the Champion sprinter prove popular in the ring

The European yearling sales season is now in full swing and Darley stallion Slade Power has been making a good impression with buyers with his first crop of yearlings. The Champion sprinter enjoyed a very successful Doncaster Premier Yearling Sale late last month and this continued into the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale, which concluded yesterday.

The highlight for Slade Power this week was lot 345, a filly offered for sale by The Castlebridge Consignment. Out of the Group-placed mare Blue Angel, she is a half-sister to last year’s Dee Stakes winner Viren’s Army and was bought by Rabbah Bloodstock for €80,000. She was the second-highest priced yearling by a first-season sire of the day and will go into training with Richard Fahey.

On the opening day of the sale, Slade Power’s daughter out of the Group-placed Acclamation mare Slope went to Creighton Schwarz Bloodstock for €60,000. She was offered for sale by Loughmore Stables.

Last month at Doncaster, Slade Power’s recorded a career-high price to date of £120,000 for his colt out of Black Rodded, a full sister to Black Type winner Queen’s Grace and from the family of Sakhee’s Secret. Offered by Ballyhimikin Stud, he was bought by Bobby O’Ryan and Rebel Racing.

During the same sale, his colt out of Stakes producer French Fern was bought by Sackville Donald for £75,000. Consigned by Whatton Manor Stud, the dam is a half-sister to G2 winner and G1 Middle Park Stakes third Captain Marvelous.

Slade Power has 12 yearlings catalogued at next week’s Goffs Orby Sale and a further six at the subsequent Goffs Sportsman’s Sale. He then has nine yearlings in the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 and a further 19 in Book 2, so there is bound to be plenty more success in the ring to come for this exciting young stallion.
