Strong trade at Doncaster sees success for the Darley stallions

First yearlings by Slade Power sell for up to £120,000

The Doncaster Premier Sale concluded on Thursday, 31 August and another record-breaking sale saw yearlings by the Darley stallions prove a popular choice among buyers.

Slade Power, rated the best European Champion sprinter for a decade and winner of the G1 Diamond Jubilee, the G1 Darley July Cup and the G2 British Champions Sprint, had his first yearlings go through the ring and every one offered at Doncaster sold successfully.

His top price was an impressive £120,000, for Ballyhimikin Stud’s flashy colt out of Black Rodded. He was bought by Bobby O’Ryan for Rebel Racing and is from the family of another Champion Sprinter in Sakhee’s Secret.

On the first day, Sackville Donald went to £75,000 to secure Slade Power’s son out of French Fern – already dam of a Group performer in Fort Bastion. The mare is herself a half-sister to G2 winner and G1 Middle Park third Captain Marvelous. Later on the same day, Knockenduff Stud’s filly out of Soul Mountain (already dam of five winners, including two Black type performers) was bought by Gary Douglas and Olly Williams for £60,000.

Iffraaj is enjoying an outstanding year with his runners and early on the first day he made waves in the sales ring when the first foal out of Stakes winner Fig Roll went to China Horse Club for £190,000. He was consigned by Longview Stud.

Just one yearling by Teofilo was offered for sale and he made the top ten highest-priced lots when going to Godolphin for £200,000. Consigned by Manister House Stud, he is out of juvenile winner Midget, a half-sister to Teofilo’s G2 winner Amralah and from the same female family as the great racemare Midday.
